List of the PSI Orations

The Physiological Society of India invites applications from distinguished Physiologists, Scientists, and Researchers from India and abroad for its Orations every year. Most of the Orations is delivered in the ensuing Annual Conference of the Society / a restricted number in Indian Science Congress Sessions [Section: Medical Sciences (including Physiology)] / and the remaining in the one-day Scientific Seminar of the Society that is conventionally organized on the Foundation Day (13th July) of the PSI along with the Annual General Body Meeting. 

Prof. S.C. Mahalanobis Memorial Oration

It is a lifetime achievement award. A person in the post of a Professor/ Senior Scientist in a reputed Institution (in India or Abroad) who has made an immense contribution to the field of Physiology and allied sciences may apply for this Oration Award.

Prof. B.B. Sarkar Memorial Oration

By convention, this award is presented to the Organizing Secretary of the Annual Conference of The PSI (of the concerned year).

Prof. P.B. Sen Memorial Oration

Prof. Sen was specialized in Biochemistry. A reputed scientist who contributed immensely to Physiological Chemistry and Clinical Physiology will be preferred for this Oration Award.

Prof. S.R. Maitra Memorial Oration

Prof. Maitra was an eminent Work Physiologist and founder of Ergonomics at the University of Calcutta. Later, he worked on pharmaceutical physiology and drug discovery. After completing his PhD from abroad, he joined the University of Calcutta.
Any scientist who has made an immense contribution to the field of biological sciences may apply for this Oration Award. However, persons who have contributed to the fields of ergonomics, work physiology, exercise, and sports physiology will be given preference for this Oration Award.

Prof. J.N. Moitra Memorial Oration

Prof. Moitra was an eminent neurophysiologist as well as a psychiatrist. Any person who has made an immense contribution in that field will be preferred for this Oration Award.

Prof. A.K. Mukherjee Memorial Oration

Prof. Mukherjee was an eminent endocrinologist and reproductive physiologist. A person who made an immense contribution to those fields will be preferred for this Oration Award.

Prof. Satipati Chatterjee Memorial Oration

Prof. Chatterjee was specialized in Sports Physiology. A person who has immensely contributed to Sports Physiology will be preferred for this Oration Award.

Sri. Ramendra Sundar Sinha Memorial Oration

An eminent Physiologist from any branch can apply for this Oration Award.

Smt. Subha Mukherjee Memorial Oration

A person who has made a contribution to the field of cancer biology will be preferred for this Oration Award.

Smt. Shakuntala Das Gupta Memorial Oration

She was specialized in Nutritional Biochemistry. The person working and making an immense contribution in such a field will be preferred for this Oration Award.

Dr. Chitralekha Mukherjee Memorial Oration

Dr. Mukherjee was a well-known physiologist with specialization in Endocrinology, Reproductive Biology, and Pharmacology. Any person with a proven track record in those fields will be preferred for this Oration Award.

Prof. K. Raghothama Rao Oration

Prof. Rao is an eminent and outstanding teacher in Physiology Education. A person having publications in Physiology Education will be preferred for this Oration Award.

Dr. Siddhartha Debnath Memorial Oration

Dr Debnath was specialized in neurophysiology. However, any scientist (within the age of 45 years) having contribution to the field of Physiology and allied sciences may apply for this Oration.

Prof. B.N. Koley Memorial Oration

It is a lifetime achievement award. Person in the post of Professor or equivalent Scientist in a reputed Institute in India or Abroad who has made an immense contribution to the field of Electrophysiology / Biophysics / Neuroscience / Neuropharmacology / Cardiovascular Physiology / Respiratory Physiology / Renal Physiology / Pharmacology and Drug Development may apply for this Oration Award.

Prof. Chandan Mitra Memorial Oration

Professor Chandan Mitra was an eminent Physiologist and Researcher in Endocrinology and Reproductive Physiology, Environmental Toxicology and Occupational Health. Prof. Mitra always strove to contribute towards improving the health benefits of individuals and society through public health interventions, thus reducing health inequalities. He was extremely academic and positive in his approach to the promotion of Physiology Teaching in India. Eminent Scientists working in the field of Endocrinology & Reproductive Physiology, Environmental Toxicology and Occupational Health will be preferred for this Oration Award.

Sri. Debajyoti Das Memorial Oration 

Sri. Debajyoti Das was a legendary professor of Physiology. His books in the fields of Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Biostatistics are highly popular among both students and educators of medical and non-medical disciplines. Eminent Scientists / Faculty members of Physiology and allied Sciences may apply for this Oration.
